Idaho is more than just potatoes.

I know you are wondering why Boise, Idaho? After all coming from Vancouver Boise isn’t on the top of the travelling Bucket List. Boise is big on beer though and one of the reasons I’m here is to experience the Barley Bros Traveling Beer Show thanks to an invite from Tourism Idaho. Besides 30 Days Of Summer is all about Summer get aways and Boise is only 500 Miles or 800 KM’s away so why not, I’m Boise bound!

Welcome to Boise

My first stop in Boise is going to be my home away from home for a couple of nights, The Modern Hotel and Bar. Fully updated it’s a former Travel Lodge with an edge. A hopping bar and modern rooms that are very comfortable and my room ranges in price from $119 to $167 a night.

Dropping off my luggage I head straight to the Bar for some cocktails and appies cause after a day of travelling I’m hungry and thirsty. I’ve got to say I was a little surprised with what was on offer. An inventive cocktail menu where they make their own ginger beer (just one example) and a very high end menu that included Lamb Meatballs, Braised Goat and Smoked Sturgeon on the menu.

Oh did I forget to say they have Happy Hour?

Now that my hunger and thirst have been partially satiated it’s time to get out and explore Boise. A lot quieter than I expected but once you hit 8th Street Boise comes alive. If you are lucky enough to be in Boise on a Wednesday you’ll be treated to Alive After 5 an outdoor summer concert series that you can drink beer on the street without being inside a fence!!! Vancouver please take note.

Just a couple blocks away is a patio that is calling out our name. Take me to Bitter Creek Ale House. Probably the best sign I’ve ever seen inside a restaurant ever, BEER to the PEOPLE! The highlight of our meal could have been the Lamb Burger with Kale Caesar Salad but no it was the Bacon Sage Popcorn!

Yummy. Now it’s time to go to bed because tomorrow is a full day of touring breweries, 6 in total. Idaho has 31 Micro Craft Breweries and I’m going to visit 20% of them. Not bad for a guy who didn’t drink a lot of beer before June this year. I’m becoming  convert.

Here’s some great shots of downtown Boise on the way back to The Modern Hotel and Bar.

I’ll warn you that when you read tomorrow’s post you don’t want to be thirsty, I can’t be held responsible for uncontrolled urges to drink beer Smile Read and drink responsibly.
