Since I’ve been on my own it’s been a pay check to pay existence and I’m ready to change that.
“Good morning and welcome to Walmart”, that is what my future holds for me if I don’t start making some changes and planning for retirement. I don’t think I’m alone either, raise your hand if you live month to month, paycheque to paycheque. What’s worse is I can’t blame anyone but myself. I like to shop, eat out and generally live the good life. I have no one but myself to hold accountable for the state of my bank account. This of course is all about to change, it’s 30 Days To A Better Me and that includes not just my physical health but also my financial health. It’s time to make some changes and I need help to do so so I’m bringing in an expert to help me, Bruce Sellery author, financial journalist & the man behind Moolala money made simple.
In early 2013 I shared in 30 People You Should Know that I declared bankruptcy in 2007. It was a painful journey to that point but it’s been an amazing ride since then as I’ve learned tons about myself and money. If it wasn’t for that moment in time and the decision to hit reset on on my financial life I’m not sure if I would be doing what I’m doing today. But that was my past and I’m all about looking forward to the future and that is what Bruce is going to help me do. I was introduced to Bruce by a friend in Toronto who told me if I ever needed a financial expert to help guide me towards financial freedom Bruce was the guy.
I called Bruce in early November to talk and hit it off with him right away. I asked if he’d be willing to help me out because I was finally ready to make some changes to the way I’ve been spending money and not saving for those rainy days. He said absolutely, I have a plan for you. Which brings me to today. Over the next weeks Bruce has laid out a Five Week Financial Challenge that I will follow and learn from. Think of it as working out with a personal trainer except it’s a financial trainer.
Each week of the challenge will address a different step in changing my relationship with money. As my guide I’ll be using Bruce’s latest book The Moolala Guide to Rockin’ Your RRSP.
- Week 1: Lay the Foundation
- Week 2: Determine how much you need
- Week 3: Develop a plan
- Week 4: Take action
- Week 5: Stay engaged
Follow along the challenge with me and let me know what you are struggling with and succeeding with. Let’s do it together! I’m giving away a copy of Bruce Sellery’s book to help you out.
It doesn’t have anything to do with helping me save money but listening to Dawn Chubai’s latest Album “Under The Covers” puts me in the mood to recognize that life has so much more to show me and I want to see it all. It’s also a great album to chill out to on a 5 hour plane ride from Toronto to Vancouver like I just was on. I was blissed out and very mellow Check out the album for yourself and Tweet or Facebook Dawn yourself to tell her what you think of it. I bet you’ll love it and her.
