I have fallen in love with Tofino. I haven’t even hit the surf yet, but I can feel the culture invading my spirit. I’m relaxed, chill and enjoying some quiet moments alone in nature. It is a perfect get away from my hectic and busy life. Today I’m switching up my accommodations and moving to a Beach House at the Pacific Sands Resort. 1340 square feet might be a little more than one person needs, but I’m considering this a scouting trip for a future Winter storm watching “girls weekend” get away. I’ll be steps away from the beach, have as much privacy as I could want, and I’ll be able to sink even further into nirvana. Welcome to my home away from home at the Pacific Sands Beach Resort.
Pacific Sands Beach Resort is about half way between the Tofino Airport at Long Beach and the downtown core of Tofino. From the resort to Rhino Coffee it is a 6.7 km trek, nine mins by car or about 1 hour if you are a fast walker.
There is a welcome centre when you drive onto the property. This is where I check in, where they have a DVD library for loan, and they even have a couple of Mac computers for those that need to surf the web and check emails. Check in is pretty quick and painless then I am given directions to find my Beach House, #26. I’m not staying at one of the Lighthouse Suites, or the Beachfront Suites, or even the Lodge Suites, nope I’ve got a Beach House.
The Beach Houses have out own parking lots complete with luggage wheel barrels to help you load in. I’m just here with my backpack so I can walk straight into my new home away from home. Two level townhouse style I’m pretty excited to see what they look like inside. WOW! My first look is impressive. A full kitchen with open dining room and living room complete with flat screen TV, Fireplace, and a balcony that looks straight out to Cox Bay Beach.
Just look at that view.
This is just the main floor though. The second floor has the two bedrooms each with its own bathroom. My bedroom has an equally gorgeous view of the beach and ocean, all visible while lying in bed. There is a soaker tub as well that is slightly elevated to take advantage of this view. I might chance a soak for a few hours in this tonight. Calgon take me away.
Go into town, down some grocery shopping and pick up some wine and you will never have to leave this Beach House. Have I said I am planning a Winter Storm get away here? Of course, you may want to leave the Beach House and explore the beach. If you are a surfer, Cox Bay offers some great swells, and The Surf Sisters have a school and rentals available for you on site. Or, you can just walk the beach and enjoy yourself like I am.
For people that stay at Pacific Sands, there is an extra special perk and area for you to explore. It is called Pettinger Pointe; you can hike out about 10 minutes through the rainforest and onto some of the rocks to a point that allows you to look back at Cox Bay Beach. All you here is pounding surf against the rocks and all you can see is the wonder and majesty of nature. My hike was a bit obscured by fog, but I still found it magical.
I may have had the Beach House all to myself, but I can see why the Pacific Sands Beach Resort is such a desired location for families and small groups. Every unit at the resort has a kitchen and many units offer two bedrooms for parents and kids or friends sharing a getaway. Either way it is a magical place that inspires you to stop and smell the roses, or in Tofino’s case the sand.
Pacific Sands offers the best of both worlds. A vacation retreat steps from the beach and surf but it also has all the comforts of home including a full kitchen. Perfect for family escapes or small group getaways. The location is secluded and you need a car to get into town so that is a good or a bad thing depending on the trip you are planning. WiFi as of this post is challenging. Don't plan to do much internet time as you will be frustrated.
