Reggae is the heart and soul of Jamaica and it is also the name of the latest addition to RIU Hotels Jamaican properties. The Riu Reggae is their third property in Montego Bay to open here brings the total to six hotels in Jamaica. The other properties are located in Negril (west) and Ocho Rios (east). This adults only all-inclusive beachfront resort has all you expect from a 5-star resort including some local Jamaican flavour. Whether it’s the friendly staff, free flowing rum punch or the high energy performances nightly on the main stage, you’ll never forget you are in Jamaica. Ya mon, everything is irie mon.

I am not staying at the Riu Reggae, but the Riu Palace right next door. Both are adult only resorts with the Riu Palace being only half the size and without a spa or entertainment stage. Lucky for me as a guest of the Palace I can access all the amenities at the Riu Reggae.

Along with the other media on this trip, we are invited to tour the new hotel. Top say it’s spectacular is an understatement. 400+ rooms, two pools, the Renova Spa, fitness room, five restaurants and four bars make up the property. Oh and don’t forget about the white sand beach and the Caribbean ocean right there.

We are toured through the property starting with the lobby and the main lounge. Love the bold design and colour choices. You can’t tell here but the air conditioning is fantastic and needed as a welcome respite from the humidity.

We are then toured through a series of different rooms available at the resort. Hard to snap pics as we are a big crowd but this unrooming video of my place at the Riu Palace gives you an idea of what to expect. The big difference at the Riu Reggae is the colours. I can promise you the mini bar is there.

With our tour over it is time to head to the beach for a special dinner arranged just for us. The location is not a normal dining location unless of course, you are getting married here.

The food was amazing and really showcased the talents of the kitchen staff. Local Jerk Pork, pasta stations, salad bar +++ are all there for us. It is a feast and the only limit is your stomach.

They even had fresh coconuts available and they were opened to order. Coconut water may be a hot trend but it doesn’t get better than straight from the source.

There is only one thing left to experience for us at the Riu Reggae and that is a live performance by the very talented staff of performers. Every night is a new show so you’ll never get bored. These folks may be the hardest workers yet. they rehearse all day and perform at night. #Superstars!

What a treat to check out this brand new addition to the RIU Hotels family in Jamaica and thanks to our friends at Sunwing Vacations it is as easy to book as a click of your mouse. Remember two important things: all inclusive and adults only. Four of my favourite words.

Marc’s personal note: During my stay in Jamaica I could not have been treated nicer or by friendly people. However, I should note that Jamaica as a whole is a very homophobic society and may not be a suitable destination for all. If you fall within the LGBTQ community and still wish to visit Jamaica, may I suggest you pick an all inclusive property like RIU Hotels where guest safety and happiness is taken seriously.
