New York has Central Park, San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge and for Vancouver, it is Stanley Park. Most major cities have a must visit attraction know the world over. Saint John, New Brunswick is no different. They have Reversing Falls. An actual waterfall that reverses its flow every day with the rising tide. It happens where the Saint John River meets the Bay of Fundy and it happens every single day rain or shine. The best viewing platform to catch the Reversing Falls Is the Skywalk and after a complete top to bottom renovation, it is open to the public again. Every city has a park but how many have a waterfall that flows upstream?
Under new ownership the iconic Reversing Falls restaurant and viewing platform shut down and embarked on a renovation to update and modernize the facility. Careful attention to the history and landmark status of the building was incorporated into the plan and the result is truly spectacular. A bit of new mixed with the familiar for those who have memories going back decades of visiting the Reversing Falls.
At the time of my visit, the finishing details were still to be completed but I was pleased to get a sneak peek at some of the completed parts of the building.
First up is the Skywalk itself. A steel and glass platform that allows you to walk over the edge of the cliff and look down onto the Reversing Falls. There is even a glass floor you can walk on if you are brave enough. I was.
The other completed space I was able to check out was the circular dining room. Here you will be able to enjoy the fine cuisine of Executive Chef Jessica Urquhart.
This room has history and the attention to detail preserving the rooms integrity while updating it is spectacular. Imagine a fine meal and a glass of wine while you look down over the Reversing Falls. Truly magical.
The Skywalk and Reversing Falls are now open so make sure on your next visit to #SaintAwesome you leave enough time to visit and take in this signature Saint John experience.
