Are you looking for the perfect weekend escape from the city? Looking to avoid crowds, lineups and traffic jams? Puddicombe House in the small town of New Hamburg is the perfect place to escape to. Built in 1868 by local businessman Samuel Merner this family home has been transformed by the current caretakers into a luxurious Bed & Breakfast while keeping all the historic features and charms intact. The town of New Hamburg is small enough to enjoy on foot and close enough to outdoor activities so that you won’t get bored. Eat a fabulous meal at the restaurant, treat yourself to a day in their Spa and sleep like a baby in one of the six guestrooms in the original home. Leave the city and your stress behind, Puddicombe House is calling your name.
Located in the heart of New Hamburg on 145 Peel Street you couldn’t ask for a better location to explore the Township of Wilmot, New Hamburg and the surrounding areas of the Waterloo Region. Within a 5 minute walk of this B&B, you’ll find a microbrewery, restaurants, shops (everything you need to knit and quilt can be found at Heart n Home Creations) and the Nith River runs right through it.
Puddicombe House offers itself up as an oasis from the craziness of everyday life. The Italianate style of the home built by Samuel Merner has been preserved and they have even added an event space at the back of the property that host weddings and corporate events for up to 250 people.
What I am in love with though is my room. Let me take you on a tour.
I’m staying in the Jackson suite which as you can see has all the comforts I could ask for. A large TV, a separate bathroom complete with a walk-in shower and a comfortable king-sized canopy bed. You may need steps to get into this bed.
Located just outside of my room is the communal coffee & tea station. No matter the time of day or night, a cuppa is available for you to brew. I took mine out on the front porch to do a little writing and relaxing.
My only disappointment with my stay at Puddicombe House is that I didn’t get a chance to try their breakfast. I had an early morning departure and so I was not able to partake in their morning feast. I found this from their Instagram feed which only makes me sadder that I missed breakfast here.
It doesn’t matter if you plan to chillax at Puddicombe House for your entire stay or use it as your base camp for adventure in the Waterloo region. A stay at Puddicombe House will relax and recharge you. Escape your life in the city and enjoy a little country time in New Hamburg. You won’t be disappointed.
