Gather a group of friends, set aside a Sunday afternoon and hop on the bus. You are about to go for a ride on a Tampa Bay craft beer tour aboard the Brew Bus. Eight breweries in eight hours and it is only $10. Can you visit them all? I don’t have any friends in Tampa Bay but I am up for the challenge. I imagine after a couple of beers I’ll start to make friends anyway. Who’s ready for a hop on hop off Tampa Bay craft beer tour? It’s time to board the Brew Bus.
Tampa Bay is Florida’s capital of craft beer with over 40 microbreweries within Greater Tampa. There is no way to see all of them in one day but the Brew Bus offers the most comprehensive tours available. I’ve chosen the Local Loop tour which only runs on Sunday. It is $10 for all day hop on hop off access to the brew bus.
You can start the Local Loop tour at any point on the route. The map and bus pick up times are all on the website. I’ve chosen to start at the beginning at Brew Bus Brewing. By far my favourite was the Blueberry Wheat Ale followed by the Irish-Style Red Ale.
Where to next? Southern Brewing & Winemaking is the first stop and obviously, you can order beer or wine. I order a flight of four tasters and head out to the beer garden to enjoy my sips in the sun. Not Your Heidi Klum Blonde was my favourite and not just because of the name. A point of clarification here. The $10 is for the Brew Bus, on the tour you are responsible for paying for all your tasters. This way you can order as much or as little as you like.
When I’m done I head out to the road signage where the next Brew Bus will pick up those who want to go to the next stop.
The next stop for me is Angry Chair Brewing. It is the smallest brewery I will visit today. This is one I would love to go back to and spend more time here. The taps are constantly changing so there is no telling what you will be able to try when you visit.
Back on the bus and making friends we are on to the next stop.
Cigar City Cider and Mead is probably the stop I have been looking forward to the most. I love cider and mead and can’t wait to taste what they have on tap. Hard to pick a favourite, but one of the most requested tasters is the Apple Pie Cider. It really tastes like Grandma’s apple pie.
I did stop at a few of the other spots, but I don’t want to give it all away and reunion the experience for you. Included in the stops are two restaurants that you can order a beer at and some good food. You may need to visit one of them to balance out all the drinking. Good thing this Tampa Bay craft beer tour has a designated driver. All you need to do when you’re done is take a cab from the Brew Bus back to your hotel.
