Vancouver was my home for 26 years yet when friends and family came to stay and asked where they should stay I was always at a loss. I rarely stayed in any of the hotels myself as I had a great apartment right in the heart of downtown. I had no need of a hotel room for myself so I always chose one for my guests that was located close to where I lived. That way I could maximize my visit with them. It has been a year since I left my favourite Canadian city and now that I have plans to spend a few days in town I’m wondering what Vancouver hotel should I call home while I am in town. There are many great ones to choose from. For this visit, I want a great location, amazing food and a room that guarantees I’ll have a great sleep. A pretty tall order and one Vancouver hotel jumps out to me, the Listel Hotel on Robson Street. Vancouver’s art hotel will be my Vancouver vacation base camp.
Location wise I don’t think you can do better than the Listel Hotel. Located on Robson at the corner of Jervis Street you are steps away from some of the best shopping in the city. Not to mention that you are just a short walk to one of the World’s best urban parks, Stanley Park. So with this location, I can check off access to shopping as being met.
When I arrive for check-in it is quick and painless. My room is #601, the best suite in the entire hotel. Want a tour, come with me. It is awesome.
Did you check out that balcony and the view? Pretty sweet to relax here after a busy day of out and about exploring.
As you can see from my video another one of my three must-haves is taken care of with this room. How could I not get a great nights sleep here? A favourite perk of the Listel Hotel is the French Press coffee delivery service. Before going to bed I placed my order including delivery time on the slip of paper, left it on my door handle and at the appointed time fresh coffee was delivered to my room. Coffee in bed thank you very much.
Once the coffee kicked in it was time to head downstairs to Forage for breakfast. While this restaurant is part of the hotel it stands out all on its own and is, in fact, one of my favourite places to eat dinner when I lived in Vancouver. Unfortunately, I only have time on this visit for breakfast, but doesn’t it look yummy? Executive Chef Chris Whitaker and his team have elevated seasonal and sustainable dining to new heights here.
If you are looking for a more casual approach and menu then head next door to Timber where one of my go-to bites is the Fried Cheese Curds.
Ok, so shopping check, good food check and a great nights sleep have all been taken care of. The Listel Hotel is a triple threat but there is more. If you want to visit and Art Gallery but don’t have time not to worry. The Listel Hotel has over 250 original pieces of art on display throughout the hotel curated by the world-renowned Buschlen Mowatt Gallery. It features local and international artists and I highly recommend you take a stroll around the hotel to check them all out.
One more cool perk of staying at the Listel Hotel is that they have bikes available for the guests. What better way to explore the city than on bike especially when they are right at your hotel.
I think you can understand why I chose the Listel Hotel as the place to call home when I come back to Vancouver. It is also where I tell people to stay when they ask me. A few friends have stayed there this past year and all have called me afterwards to say what a great time they had at this Vancouver hotel in the heart of downtown.
Eat, sleep and shop to your heart’s content, all at the Listel Hotel Vancouver.
